Christopher T J Charleson
Director General of SEK International Schools.
Chris has been involved in international education since 1985. He has worked in six countries in four continents, with two years as Director of Schools in two groups of schools, 20 years as a head of three International Baccalaureate (IB) schools and over 30 years of governance, leadership and teaching in international schools and educational organisations. Chris has 13 years of experience in Middle Eastern and Arab countries.
His long involvement with the IB included serving on the IB Board of Governors and as Chair of the IB Heads Council; and as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Educational Collaborative of International schools (ECIS).
He also serves as a trustee of the charitable organisation, The Kindred Project, which focuses on using education as a force for good across the world.
His passion is for developing great learning and teaching in international education that nurtures active and service-orientated global citizens at all levels of governance, leadership and teaching.
Chris is Scottish, with four adult IB diploma-holding globally nomadic children.
Miriam Buckley (BS, MED, QTS, TESOL)
Head of Primary, SEK International School Riyadh.
Over the past 16 years, Miriam has been serving as an educator and administrator for schools in the USA and abroad. She received her undergraduate education with a specialization in Cross-Cultural Studies and TESOL. She then completed her Master of Education in Teaching and Learning from Southeastern University and is currently a certified educator in multiple US states (Arizona, Georgia, and Kansas) as well as holding Qualified Teacher Status for England.
Miriam has been working in Saudi Arabia for five years, where she has served as a Kindergarten and Primary educator, and as a Kindergarten to Grade 12 administrator. Miriam brings a wealth of experience from the USA and international schools in Malawi, Kenya, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia. These educational experiences have provided her with the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of people to meet the common goal of increasing student achievement and well-being through innovation and personalized learning experiences.
Miriam is passionate about holistic education and helping to meet the learning and socio-emotional needs of every child. She has been trained and served as an Academic Facilitator and an Instructional Coach. This sparked her passion into individualized education and hands-on learning.
Miriam has also worked with renowned US student support systems and has applied them to international student’s learning needs. Miriam loves to explore Saudi Arabia with her husband and three young children.
Head of Finance and Administration
Mr. Joan Blázquez has been a member of the SEK Education Group since 1998, he has worked at SEK International School Catalunya as the Head of Finance and Administration.
He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from The University Abad Oliva in Barcelona in 1997 and an Executive Masters degree from EAE Business School in 2017.
Joan is certified in internal auditing and has a specialist degree in payment and debt collection.
He has over 23 years of experience in the financial sector of the SEK Education Group including supporting all school functions and all administrative areas.
Julie Anne Alonso
School Counselor and Admissions Officer
Mrs. Julie Anne Alonso graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in Psychology, in 2002.
She has been working with early years children since 2005, when she began her career as a developmental psychologist in Florida.
She has been a member of the SEK Education Group since 2011 and has worked at SEK International School Ciudalcampo in Madrid and assisted in the opening of SEK International School Qatar and SEK International School Riyadh.
Additionally, Julie has specialized training and certification in supporting learners with difficulties related to reading and writing.
Additionally, she is certified and trained to support talented and gifted learners with personalized learning and the development of intelligence.
Julie takes great joy in guiding all students to reach their personal and academic goals, as well as supporting parents through the different developmental phases.
